What would you do as the Mayor

What would you do if you were the Mayor ?  An actual contest here in Winnipeg is to be the mayor for the day. Details here.  While you don't have to actually enter, our class assignment will telling us what you would do to make Winnipeg a better place if you were the Mayor. Those interested in actually entering can do so.

Roles of the 3 Levels of Government:

Federal- Printing Money, Army, Navy, Air Force, Trade, Transportation across Canada, Trade, National Parks, Has the most power to tax,


Provincial-Schools, Hospitals, most highways, provincial parks, Has more power to tax than the municipalities,


Municipal-Garbage collection, the water you drink, sewers, streets, playgrounds and parks, community centres, pools, zoning-what you can build and where you can build it,  cat and dog licenses, bike registration, property taxes, mosquito and insect control, city buses, city police, fire department, bike paths, traffic lights, public water fountains and washrooms, snow removal, grass cutting, cleaning the streets and parks,

A key to the city. Sometimes Winnipeg and other cities award the 'Key' to the city to visiting important people.

Application-
1. All you need to do is explain what you think Mayors do, and what you’d do to make Winnipeg a better place to live and why. 

2. Do the above in an essay that is under 250 words. They are also encouraging sending a video, or at least some pictures. 

3. Post it onto Kidblog by a week Thursday, March 22. We will share our applications on the following Friday during period 6.

4. If you want the teacher to enter your application to the city, hand in the permission form by Friday, March 23.
